Spirelli in Square

Standard

Last month, a tutorial was posted at Operation Write Home on how to do Spirelli. I posted a card yesterday where I used a scalloped circle. Today, my card was created using a postage stamp diecut.

Wausau Fleck cardstock, DP is Recollections Black and White, Sentiment is TPC whimsy Greetings in Memento Tuxedo Black. Vintage Pink Cotton Thread.

OWH Tuxedo Card Tutorial

Standard

Operation Write Home is having a bloghop today. It’s Spring Training themed and filled with Masculine Card tutorials.

The OWH tutorial is awesome – it shows how to make a Tuxedo Card.

I tweaked mine to just be a bow tie with a blue blazer. Totally thought of Alton Brown while I made it, as well.

TPC Studio Dark Blue Color Connect Texture, White Cardstock. Pink Paislee Pop Fashion Collection. Sentiment is TPC Studio Whimsy Greetings in Memento Tuxedo Black.

I tweaked the design by not using a button for the tie and by not scoring five lines on the shirt – I did the outside ones and a center. Any future cards will just have the outside ones.

OWH Tutorial – Ribbon Brad Trick

Standard

Operation Write Home has a new tutorial up for Sandy Allnock’s Ribbon Brad Trick.

I’ve posted this video before – it was the video that caused me to realize that Heat Embossing is magical.

I took the Ribbon Brad trick to heart and did it six times.

The card looks wonky as I haven’t put it on a card base yet.

Wausau Fleck cardstock. Ribbons are Dashes Dots and Checks from Michaels. Brads are Recollections. Sentiment is Doodlebug in Versacolor Black with Hampton Arts Clear Embossing Powder.

SOS Challenge 90

Standard

Shopping Our Stash has their newest challenge up – #90 – Use your oldest designer paper.

I tied this into the Tuesday Tutorial on Operation Write HomeFocal Point Review.

I did a Pinwheel card but I tweaked it. Instead of using strips of paper, I simply used whole corners. The DP I used is about 7 years or so old. I bought it on sale with the intention of having it for my big kid to use with school projects.

Wausau Fleck cardstock, black from stash. DP from DCWV The Stack. Sentiment from TPC Studio Cupcakes in Memento Black. Squiggles from Doodlebug set in Distress Inks Barn Door, Wild Honey, Peeled Paint and Faded Jeans.

I feel like it needs something else, but I can’t figure what that is at the moment.

Card for a Girl with a ribbon bow tutorial

Standard

This is a continuation of yesterday’s post about General cards for girls. Sandy Allnock, president of Operation Write Home, has put out a request for cards for kids that heroes can send home to the little peeps in their life.

My other cards had twine accents. I decided to use the ribbon bow tutorial that Sandy put up while at CHA. I love that this trick saves on the amount of ribbon I had to use – I can make two cards with the amount of ribbon I would have used on one if I’d had to carry it onto the back of the cardfront.

Wausau Fleck cardstock front, solid pink is from Core-dinations Botanicals pack, patterns from DCWV The Stack. Sentiment is Studio G Lynette Anderson Taylor in Memento Tuxedo Black. Ribbon is from Michaels. Ribbon ends secured with dotted tape. This also helps to conceal the holes that I punched in the card.

OWH and SOS tutorial challenge

Standard

Operation Write Home has a Fussy Cutting tutorial up today and Shopping Our Stash has a Thank You / Thanksgiving Challenge.

I combined the two.

The fussy cutting is the clouds. I used a Rubber Stamps of America stamp in Distress Ink Tumbled Glass. EK tree border punch. Blue and green papers are no ID. Kite is Jolees. Adhered with Diamond Glaze. Sentiment is Studio G Kolette Hall in Memento Tuxedo Black.

OWH Reverse Iris Tutorial

Standard

Operation Write Home put up a new tutorial yesterday – Reverse Iris Folding.

I decided to try with some paper that I have that I’m not super fond of – the colors are fun, but the patterns leave a bit to be desired. I like that you use fairly big pieces of paper for this so it’s a good way to “get rid of” stuff you don’t see yourself using otherwise.

The paper is all from a stack that was purchased coverless at a thrift so I’m not sure who made it. Sentiment is Hero Arts Happy Birthday OWH set, cupcake is popped on with dimensional foam and is from the TPC Studio Cupcakes set. Colored with Spectrum Noir EB1 and Stampin Up Pencils.

The colorway is very sweet – vanilla, chocolate, raspberry and butterscotch. Perfect for a birthday greeting.
