So, my wonderful contractors showed up at 1:00 pm on Monday. No phone call, no notice. I had to call the office to make sure they were coming out. These are the same guys whose working day ends at 3:00 pm. Gosh, thanks for making a 2 hour appearance. I appreciate it very much…
They spent that time playing with the sink plumbing and putting in a couple of the base cabinets. “we promise we’ll be back first thing tomorrow.” Yeah, OK. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Well, on Tuesday, I did see it. They showed up at 8:45 am, which for them was about 45 minutes early.
They finished with the sink stuff and put in the rest of my cabinets. End panels by the fridge, new sink base, everything in place. They drilled holes for the cabinet knobs. They cleaned up, had me sign paper work and then poof, like that, they were gone. Yippee!!
I put on the new knobs, a wonderful gunmetal grey that looks amazing with the Cabernet finish on the cabinets. The knobs were a great find – a closeout store in Marietta, GA had a pallet of cabinet hardware. “Buy the box of 30, $1.00 each.” These same knobs were at the big box stores for $4-$5 apiece.
Cabinets in place.
No more avocados for us, unless they're in guacamole.
The cabinetless wall really needed cabinets.
I spent 2 hours last night putting in all the shelves and thinking about how I wanted each cabinet used. The kitchen stuff that is currently in the house is what Steve had in the 1 bedroom apartment where he lived for 9 months. It’s now off the dining room table and is properly secured in its new home. Now I get to pack up all the stuff from Georgia and bring it here.
The kitchen is coming together so well. Next up is granite measuring. The stone we’re getting is called Shivakashi Burgundy. It’s ivory based with swirls of burgundy, shades of grey and mica flecks.

It’s gonna be lovely. It will brighten up the whole room and once in place will be the deciding factor in how I do the backsplash.
