I’ve been posting cards for the past few weeks that I’m making for Operation Write Home. This organization collects handmade cards from crafty peeps and sends them to military peeps on deployment all over the world. Obviously there is a huge postage cost to all of this – over $10,000 during the winter holiday season alone. Sandy Allnock is president of the organization and her beautiful dog Ciara has her own fundraising page.
So, at my daughter’s previous school, I was very involved in the PTA. I spent 11 years running the school store and held other positions as well – I even ran the Sally Foster sale the year she was in 1st grade. When you’re in charge of Sally, it behooves you to sell alot of stuff, and we did, to ourselves. Over the course of her 5 years at Garrison Mill, I have accumulated a full size bookcase’s worth of wrapping paper, gift bags, tags, tissue & cards.
My thought as I unpacked the monstrosity above in our new house in Maryland was “Yay, no more Sally Foster.”
Imagine my horror when my little angel brought home the fundraising packet from her new school today –
Dear God, I’m a firm believer in supporting your school, and your school’s PTA but can’t I catch a break here? I really have no more room for wrapping paper. Maybe a few more gift bags but I have so many now, we’ll have to attend birthday parties every weekend until she graduates from high school for them to be used up.
