OWH Sketch Challenge 160

Operation Write Home’s newest sketch challenge is up – #160.

Here’s my rainbowlicious version.

Since I’d just fixed a card for the focal point challenge that had a panel of these squiggles, I decided to make the background paper for the sketch in the same way. I wanted a DP that had the same ROYGBIV look and added additional layers of black to keep all the patterns separate. It’s busy but I think any teeny peep who received this card from Mom or Dad would be a very happy teeny peep indeed. I also switched the focal point position to allow for the way the zebra was facing.

Black paper from stash. Wausau Fleck cardstock for stamping, DP is from DCWV Summer Stack. Squiggles are Doodlebug in Distress Inks Barn Door, Wild Honey, Peeled Paint and Faded Jeans. Zebra is Recollections in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, colored with Soho colored Pencils. Hello is from TPC Studio in Tuxedo Black Ink as well. Brad is from Recollections.

  1. Fantastic! This is the best one yet Kara! The squiggles make a perfect background for this image and along with the dotted paper give it a really festive feel. Switching up a sketch a bit to make it make it work best for your particular image and/or sentiment is totally fair game. It’s the mark of a designer who is thinking through the entire process. The black layers add SO much extra dimension too. You knocked this one out of the park! 🙂
